External antenna , My Asus Eee pc 900ha

and here is the Eee with the 9dbi antenna , kinda crazy looking for being in public with ,but what the hell ,ya already look crazy .

Shipping times were really great btw. I would order from them again . it was shipped from Austin ,Tx to Seattle in right at 4 days.Good work Netgate!

The 900HA wireless sucks . I dont know how true the meter readings are in the crunchbang linux im using now ,but normally I have only gotten 40-44% sitting a room away (maybe 20 feet from the router ) , and with the 3dbi antenna I get 65-68% and a huge increase in speed that is every noticeable . The 9 dbi antenna is giving me 78-80% increase and even more speed .It seems to vary from night to day during this hot summer alot due to thermal fade . I would say those are great results .

Kismet-newcore has really turned into a passive packet sniffing beast ,I really like the results as now the "packet/signal graph" shows amazing blobs of colors that really get me excited to see when running it with the 9dbi antenna even more so then with the 3dbi (as expected) Now, its a must that I patch the cards wifi drivers for injection .Wouldn't you say ? More on that here !

I used I-hacked guide here on doing this modification .find it here . This is for the the Asus EEE 4G Surf ,yet it is related somewhat to the 900ha . The mic is mounted on the screen in the Asus 900HA Eee that is different .

Here is specific information on taking the 900ha apart ,might be a good idea to read through this also .

One , pointer I would give is that you really watch were you route that freakin ext. antenna pigtail as if you decide to route it under the MB under the area were the power switch is then you might notice that your Eee likes to turn on when you are touching your Eee the wrong way or turn off while typing. yeah , that has to do with the fact that you pigtail is not going to go under that area yet it needs to go over
This is how your pigtail should be routed .

I think next i should do an intel 5300 802.11 a/b/g/n ,being the it uses MIMO technology , one antenna for Rx and one for Tx to increase throughput. Then I should add a second external antenna to that card. I just need to do a little research on the subject first . I will most definitely have to post the results for you here if it does happen .

Either way , I intend to now iron out the kinks in using bluetooth so as to pair my BT gps receiver with my laptop and do a little warbiking using kismet .I'm curious as to what I may find out
